Report Details
Apart from gulls gathered on the sand near the jetty on the north side of the Coquille River and a bloated cow, the beach was all mine close to a minus low tide at 6 on a calm but cloudy morning. Sticks, crab molt, shell fragments, kelp, small stones constituted the "natural" part of the drift line. Unnatural elements were the toilet seat cover and brittle plastic pieces that came in with the tides. The ocean is shifting the driftwood piles, now much thinner than on my previous walk here. Incidentally, the gates accessing the lighthouse beach are now open to traffic, though the parking lot pavement is quite bumpy and uneven because of previous storms.
Conditions
Temperature: 40 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: -1.1 feet.
Notable Wildlife
Flocks of gulls on sand near jetty.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. Toilet seat cover
Natural Changes
Driftwood starting to move back to sea.
