Mile 288 - Bayocean Peninsula, Kincheloe Point - June 2, 2002

Report Details

Observed no particular changes since last visit, which was November of 2001. Did note that the County had placed "Trail" signs both along the bay and along the high dune area. Beach and dune area were generally clean, with the usual exceptions of small amounts of probably ocean-based debris.

Notable Wildlife

Along beach just south of the southern end of mile 288, there was a baby harbor seal with part of the umbilical cord still attached. The seal seemed healthy and was probably left there by the mother while she searched for food.

Bayocean Peninsula, Kincheloe Point

It was an incredibly busy day for Mile 288 the day before the snowy plover nesting season began! I was glad to see DOGAMI and OPRD on-site, and appreciated OPRD's willingness to haul the debris I collected back to their dumpsters. It was also exciting to see so many plovers in the wet sand.
