Report Details

I have seldom been to the beach on a major holiday, and there were many more people than I am used to seeing. It was sunny and warm, although there was a breeze. It was a very nice way to spend the afternoon.

Beached Birds

I saw the remains of one bird, probably a shore bird, but not at all recent so hard for me to tell.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

There was a dead sand lance. There were quite a few jellies, including moons and sea nettles and something else that I couldn't identify.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. There are always small plastic fragments.

Natural Changes

There is quite a bit of erosion of sandy bluffs--some just north of 17th Street. The bluff near Jumpoff Joe continues to come down.

A large swath of the bluff is well vegetated with shore pines, willow and native shrubs like silverweed, and black twinberry.
