Mile 120 Report
Sunset Bay, Qochyax Island
June 17, 2012
This is the beach report for SCUUF.
Report Details
This is the beach report for SCUUF. Five of us walked the mile. A high use beach with 121 people and nine dogs (80 walking, 5 playing in surf, 4 playing in sand, 4 sitting, 5 tidepooling, 2 surfing, 3 fishing and others at a wedding). Little trash for a high use beach. New discovery- morning glories in the grass near the horseshoe pit. We were charmed. We pulled ivy on Earth Day as part of Dennis Phillips memorial. Done with permission of the Parks Dept., but were not allowed dig it from the ground, something about finding artifacts. We did a lot of damage to the ivy, that had strangled pretty much everything else in some areas. Unfortunately, it is the first thing growing back. Much more work is needed on this.

Mile 120
Sunset Bay, Qochyax Island
Very busy "day at the beach"--not surprising for Sunday of Labor Day Weekend; what did surprise me was the relatively low number of out-of-state license plates.

Mile 120
Sunset Bay, Qochyax Island
Sunset Bay was overwhelmed by visitors presumably drawn by the "High Surf" warnings on their weather apps or, I suspect, by awareness of the "King Tide" phenomenon.

A lot of people have a good time on the beach.

This area appeared to me to have been somewhat laid to waste by high waves along with rain which flooded the parking lots and, of course, the beach.
