Four of us from the UU Congregation did the walk today.
Report Details
Four of us from the UU Congregation did the walk today. Animal casings, kelp/algae, plastic pellets and very little trash in the driftline. Four Western Grebe and gulls. Thirty people walking (26),surfing (3) and sitting (2)Concerns are visible undermining of concrete under bathrooms and English Ivy growing along sea bluffs. Will attempt to get UUs interested in pulling ivy.
Conditions
Temperature: 57 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1.2 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 30. Number of dogs: 7. Walking or running: 26. Sitting: 2. Surfing: 3. It was a beautiful day surrounded by the not so beautiful. Many people on trail, beach and parked in lots and off road. Almost too numerous to count. Because of the large number of people, not much wildlife. Gulls only.

Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea). Very little trash
Man-made Modifications
Large concrete blocks in front of the bathrooms are beginning to shift. Some undermining of concrete platform around bathroom
Natural Changes
Newly exposed roots/trees falling. few old roots exposed

In addition to the 6 kayaks in the water, 5 other boats and 4 surfboards on cars in the (3) lots.

Very busy "day at the beach"--not surprising for Sunday of Labor Day Weekend; what did surprise me was the relatively low number of out-of-state license plates.

Sunset Bay was overwhelmed by visitors presumably drawn by the "High Surf" warnings on their weather apps or, I suspect, by awareness of the "King Tide" phenomenon.

A lot of people have a good time on the beach.

This area appeared to me to have been somewhat laid to waste by high waves along with rain which flooded the parking lots and, of course, the beach.
