Report Details

The beach was clean and lovely. Very quiet day. There were two dead murres and one dead Harbor Seal.This beach still attracts illegal ATV use. One dune buggy problem occurred this summer. State police were called for an ATV incident and the dune buggy incident. The ATV user was taken to court and fined. The dune buggy user was warned at his home by the State Police officer.

Human Activities

Number of people: 1. Walking or running: 1. There were many ATV tracks and new incursion areas have been created by them at Paradise Point trail to the beach.I doubt any of these vehicles are legal. A neighbor filed a complaint against an ATV user this past summer. It went to court and the individal was fined. This person was accessing the beach from the Garrison lake area. Illegal ATV and dune buggy use continues to be a problem. I called the State Police about a dune buggy this summer. The officer went to the home of the person and gave a warning.

Most notable observations were the large amount of wrack debris, including fresh kelp, small woody debris, and remnants of dead gorse plants scattered along waveslope.

Hazy conditions due to smoke from wildfires in wilderness areas east of Port Orford. Juvenile snowy plover and common murre chick offshore indicate successful nesting. Bleached barnacles on rocks may indicate disease or exposure to extreme temperatures. New home construction noted at southeast end of beach.
