March 18, 2009
There were few people on the beach this day, only two and only one van in the parking area.
Report Details
There were few people on the beach this day, only two and only one van in the parking area. The beach looked clean and typical of Paradise Point beach...pebbles, agates, bullwhip kelp and driftwood, some arranged in lovely sculptures, AND the ever present ATV tracks. I noticed gorse for the first time on the cliffs/bluffs of Paradise Point. It is gaining a foothold. I noticed small boulders of a reddish/iron- containing-looking nature at the foot of the trail down from Paradise Point. The bluff may be eroding and the parking area may be affected in time...who knows how much. This time of day it was mid-tide.
Conditions
Temperature: 48 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW.
Human Activities
Number of people: 2. Walking or running: 2. There were ATV tracks on the beach. A recurring situation.
Vehicles
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 1.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Small rocks. Some fishing line and rope.
Natural Changes
Some fallen boulders, not mafor.
Actions & Comments
Gorse is starting to take hold on the bluff at Paradise Point. There were reddish rocks at the base of the bluff, obviously fallen from the bluff as there is a line in the rock of red color. It appears to me that erosion is the cause.

Hazy conditions due to smoke from wildfires in wilderness areas east of Port Orford. Juvenile snowy plover and common murre chick offshore indicate successful nesting. Bleached barnacles on rocks may indicate disease or exposure to extreme temperatures. New home construction noted at southeast end of beach.
