Report Details
Although there has been some residential development above the cliffs at the east end of mile 50, the shoreline is largely inaccessible and remains remarkably wild for a populated area that once had an active Coast Guard Station. Everything looked good.

Temperature: 55 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 8.0 feet.
Human Activities
I toured mile 50 by kayak, launching on the beach just east of the Port of Port Orford. There were people at the Port, but I did not see any at shoreline within mile 50 itself, most of which is inaccessible except by kayak.

There were a few seals swimming near shore. Bird life was abundant, cormorants, Pigeon Guillemots, gulls, oystercatchers, crows. There is an active osprey nest on a seastack in Nellie's Cove for at least the second year in a row.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Small rocks, Styrofoam, Wood pieces.

Despite being adjacent to the Port of Port Orford, this is one of the most pristine segments of the South Coast.
