Temperature: 58 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 0.9 feet.

Number of people: 5. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 5. Tidepooling: 3. the five persons and one dog were all in my party--we walked to this beach. Saw no one else on this lovely fall morning

usual flocks of seagulls, phaloropes, three oyster catchers, and, several vultures (see below)

no banding; both were gulls

Total stranded mammals: 1. dead whale; 13-15 feet in length, south edge of Swagg Island; first noted one week earlier floating offshore (also, what appears to be placenta and umbilical cord floating in a mass on and off the beach nearby

North towards Zwagg Island the tidepools were thick with the greatest diversity and quantity of sea weed I have ever encountered.

mile 5 to the extent that it is accessible--from Chetco Point to 1/8 mile north of the little offshore projection just south of the condos--has changed very little since the last report.

Rather benign visit, given the storms of late with high wave action.

Mile five seems to be generally stable except for the crumbling bluff noted above and constant shifting of the entry of Mill Creek into Macklyn Cove (an annual rearrangment).
