Quite a few people enjoying a Sunday morning walk on the beach at low tide, able to walk to Crescent Beach via the sand bridge by the first Bird Rock.

Quite a few people enjoying a Sunday morning walk on the beach at low tide, able to walk to Crescent Beach via the sand bridge by the first Bird Rock. Significant amount of mussel harvesting on the first Bird Rock at Chapman Point, big bags of mussels carried away. A variety of nesting seabirds, most still incubating, some with hatched chicks. Many people tide pooling.

Other Activities: 26 people harvesting mussels at Chapman Point, first Bird Rock. This area has seen quite a bit of mussel harvesting over the summer. 2/3 of dogs off leash.. One person disturbing black oystercatcher nest, harvesting mussels by the nest area and chick. He moved away from the nest when I let him know where it was. Oystercatcher parents alerted several times when dogs were in proximity of nest.

Notable Wildlife
10 cormorant nests and one pigeon guillemot nest in the first Bird Rock, at least one cormorant nest has hatched. A black oystercatcher pair with one mid-size chick are on the west side of the first Bird Rock. A black oystercatcher nest on the second Bird Rock, still incubating. Pigeon guillemots and common murres throughout the Bird Rocks. A juvenile eagle created a disturbance. Five turkey vultures overhead. Large healthy sea stars in tide pools.

A resident was walking from Chapman Point toward the river when two dogs, a husky and a black lab, ran up to her, barking and chasing her.

A tourist attempted to climb the west end of the first Bird Rock at Chapman Point for a photo opportunity, flushing two black oystercatcher parents from their nest and away from their chicks.
