Mile 313 Report
Tolovana Park north, Haystack Rock
October 14, 2011
stopped to check on the Ecola Outfall signage.
Report Details
stopped to check on the Ecola Outfall signage... the previous 'temporary' sign has been approved by the city and is now posted prominently in 2 locations. It seems to have had an impact, as there was no sign of any digging activity. Of course, there are also less visitor/kids this time of year. The Tolovana site has the identical sign, but there were signs of serious digging and construction activity.Hopefully, the city will proceed with the testing as planned at the last Public Works meeting we attended. They promised to conduct testing before the end of the year.We will keep monitoring.

Tolovana Park north, Haystack Rock
Overall, Haystack Rock is a treasure trove of marine biological diversity, from invertebrates and pelagic birds to marine mammals, with an active education program for curious beach visitors. The best tidepool invertebrate diversity today was observed at the south end of Haystack Rock in the area often referred to as "The Needles. As I was tidepooling, I heard multiple beach visitors asking about sea slugs and how to locate nudibranchs.
