Report Details
Issues with visitors climbing the Rock after USFW "Do not Enter" sign blew down. USFW notified and working on replacing sign. There are still multiple signs posted on the Rock informing visitors not to climb and that it is a Refuge. Last week a seal pup was spotted at the Rock. Notified Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Seal left after a few days. Just south of mile 313, at Hug Point, a large boat washed in from Japan with possible invasive species attached. OSU professors notified and collected samples and OPRD was on the scene. King Tides haven't been as dramatic this year, but photos were taken along mile 313.

Overall, Haystack Rock is a treasure trove of marine biological diversity, from invertebrates and pelagic birds to marine mammals, with an active education program for curious beach visitors. The best tidepool invertebrate diversity today was observed at the south end of Haystack Rock in the area often referred to as "The Needles. As I was tidepooling, I heard multiple beach visitors asking about sea slugs and how to locate nudibranchs.
