Very sunny day, lots of happy people out enjoying the weather. Most dogs generally well behaved or on leash; 2 dogs were chasing gulls south of OceansideVery little evidence of wrack line, scant eel grass, agates or shells.

Temperature: 60 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 150. Number of dogs: 20. Surfing: 3. Did not count cars, but parking lots in Oceanside were full, with additional cars parked along the road across from the sewage treatment facility

Concerns

Climbing bluffs/seastacks

Apparent violations: 1 person with dog climbing up cliffside at the Capes; 3 persons digging in the cliff north of the tunnel.

Disturbances: Shorebirds moving in response to humans/dogs

Notable Wildlife

3 cormorants, 3 pigeon guillemots and 3+ scoters in ocean, north of tunnel. 40 gulls (mostly Western gulls). mostly on off shore rocks. One hermit thrush in berry bushes west of upper Oceanside parking lot. (One hermit thrush was seen at the same place during the Christmas bird count on 12/14/13)

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 1. South of Oceanside recreation area, skeletal parts of an unidentified gull sized bird. This could be the same carcass seen in November
