Large quantities of horse manure at driftline, piles every 3 or 4 feet for an extensive length of the beach, extending into mile 265.
Report Details
Large quantities of horse manure at driftline, piles every 3 or 4 feet for an extensive length of the beach, extending into mile 265. We find such a large quantity of horse manure troubling and worry about the effect on human health and recreational activities in an otherwise pristine area of the Oregon coast.
Human Activities
Number of people: 44. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 23. Playing in surf: 2. Playing in sand: 8. Sitting: 9. Other Activities: kite boarding 2. A commercial horse riding company has been doing business on mile 264 and 265. They have set-up a corral on Roma Street, cut a 6 ft. wide trail to the beach and have been selling rides to the general public. In the last month, we have noticed very large quantities of horse manure on the beach, mostly at the high tide line. The manure begins in the northern quarter mile of mile 264 and extends northward. Instead of washing away with the tide, the manure is accumulating so that there are piles every 3 or 4 feet for an extensive length of the beach.

Actions & Comments
Not sure what action to take, but this seems to be (or should be) illegal activity and a health hazard since families and children actively use this section of beach.
