Mile 239 Report
Salishan Spit north, Siletz Bay
December 28, 2017
We walked from Access #50 to the tip of the Salishan Spit.
Report Details
We walked from Access #50 to the tip of the Salishan Spit. Almost no trash - picked up 4 small items. A large group of seals in their usual resting place ... but we were concerned about one who had a red plastic "Flying Ring" toy around its middle. The animal didn't look like it would be able to wriggle out of the ring so it will probably be stuck with it for the rest of its life.P.S. I am able to capture the close-up shots with the zoom on my camera so I don't need to harass the seal population by getting too close.
Conditions
Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 5.0 feet.
Human Activities
11 people + one dog walking the beach

The marine layer stayed offshore while we were walking our mile so it turned out to be a nice day.

This dispatch covers the entire spit - miles 237, 238, 239 There were no remarkable events: people, nature, trash, marine life It was just a wonderful walk to the tippy end of the spit, where a crowd of lounging dudes greeted us. We walked out three miles on the ocean side and walked back through the neighborhood, which borders the bay side.

Not a bad fall day for a walk with our out-of-town visitors, but walking the beach was impossible due to the high tide and big waves, which were reaching the beach grass area and bouncing large pieces of driftwood around.
