This was a very warm, sunny, low wind, and generally beautiful day!

This was a very warm, sunny, low wind, and generally beautiful day! There was extensive evidence of shorebirds feeding in the wet sand in the past few hours. Only crows and gulls were present when were there.The 11 dead birds we found in our mile was the highest number we have seen in our mile since we began collecting data in January of 2010. 7 were Common Murre and 4 were not identified due to more advanced decomposition and our modest skills in dead bird identification.

Notable Wildlife
Extensive evidence of shorebirds feeding in the wet sand in the past few hours. Only crows and gulls present when were there.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 11. This was the highest number of dead birds we have seen in our mile since we began collecting data in January of 2010.7 birds were Common Murre and very recently deposited on beach.4 birds were in a more advanced state of decomposition and species is unknown.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. One wooden pallet. Lots of crab legs.

Another glorious sunny winter day at Heceta Beach! The recent high tides have washed away most of the summer dunes that accumulate on the high beach in front of the vegetation zone. Just another day in paradise!

Took the missus out for a trial walk with her new walking sticks, initially heading north into the wind from Driftwood Shores Resort up to Sutton Creek and return with a nice tailwind.
