Mile 125 Report
North Beach on North Spit Coos Bay
January 17, 2013
A perfect day at the beach.
Report Details
A perfect day at the beach. Miles 125 and 126 were wide and appeared swept clean at low tide. Walking along the bluff, however, there was a great deal of plastic debris, mostly bottles and jugs. Filled 2 grocery bags and strapped them to horse. Also found a length of new blue rope, about 12 feet, intricately tied with sailor's knots at each end, and packed that out. Much cleaner today than on most visits. I contacted State Parks and BLM to find out what their requirements are for wood cutters. People wantingto cut driftwood do need to apply for a permit, and I assume the 3 men I saw had one. Shells, crab casings, kelp/algae, small rocks, land- and ocean-based debris and Styrofoam in the driftline. One person walking. One dog.

Miles 124 and 125, those just north of the north jetty on Coos Bay, must certainly retain their title of the filthiest miles in Oregon.
