Beautiful morning; most interesting was the quantity of crab shell parts, and five dead birds (though two of the birds were probably into Mile 237).

Beautiful morning; most interesting was the quantity of crab shell parts, and five dead birds (though two of the birds were probably into Mile 237).

Brown pelicans; oodles
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 5. I don't know my birds well enough to identify all; one was completely deteriorated. I did photograph them. first two photos probably a common murre; third photo was a mammal (see below), and fourth (two photos) a large-winged bird. One wing probably 18" long.
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. Unsure. Possibly a raccoon? Fur on belly still visible and striped fur on tail bone. See photo.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. Lots of small piles of shreddings and bits. Most noticeable was the plethora of crab shells (some whole backs) and pincers
Natural Changes
ongoing erosion at glenden beach state park; access has for some time been mostly inaccessible (steep, slippery); new signs posted this summer to keep people off bluffs

Storm damage for this mile seems mostly at Laurel/Sijota; Morris Excavation has built a roadbed parallel to the bluff for equipment access; some erosion at World Mark, north of state park.
