Stranded California sea lion (Zalophus californianus). It appears that someone has tried (but failed) to hack or saw off the head.
Conditions
Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 2.9 feet.

Immature (1st winter) glaucous gull (Larus hyperboreus)
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. Adult male California sea lion (Zalophus californianus). The carcass has been mutilated: it appears that someone tried to hack or saw off the head. Located high on the beach just south of the Vietnam Memorial Walk at Don Davis Park.

Sea lion corpse, seven dead birds, the rubber fishing lures, much fishing rope, decomposed jellies, and copious amounts of marine and land debris were all notable observations.
