Report Details

No significant changes from last walk. Few people on the beach, no doubt due to the weather and it being Christmas morning. Lots of bull kelp and wood pieces along the high drift line near the base of the cliff, but almost nothing lower on the beach but a few bits of eelgrass and a few small jellyfish. Two black oystercatchers and 3 black turnstones were the most interesting sightings today. Within the last week, however, I found a seal femur and a cone that I believe came from a whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis) washed up. This is an alpine species, so if my identification is correct it came quite a distance before fetching up on the beach.
