Beautiful fall day, small amt. debris (1 large bag). Dead Western Grebes unusual for me. Nice example of "Mermaid's Purse" (egg case of the Big skate, raja binoculata)(photo). Continued sand loss, up to 5 feet/past year. Landslides continue.

Total dead birds: 6. 4 common murres, 2 western grebes

Total stranded mammals: 1. adult female sea lion, dead several days
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
1 skate egg case. Inside was only milky/cheesy material; no embryo like I found once.
Driftline Content
Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Styrofoam, Wood pieces.
Natural Changes
Landslides/major boulder falls. Continued loss of sand, esp. south end, down 5 feet in past year.,

Steam was visible on the beach as cool temperatures and sunshine combined together.

Mile 180 usually has some recent erosion of the dunes and bluffs because of the steep terrain and unstable cliffs of sand.

Natural evolution has changed the appearance of the sand cliffs just south of Hobbit Beach.

I noticed the usual natural increase in sand on the beach starting to cover rocks that are completely covered up in the summer.
