Mile 121 - Gregory Point, Lighthouse Beach, Mussel Reef - March 21, 2010

Report Details

The beach has good infill, which is what it usually does this time of the year. Rock is visible below high tide line, but lots of sand above. The lighthouse island looks very green, but the trees there are dead or nearly so. The Cormorants continue to move inland, and the large trees on the lighthouse point are now dead. Noticed steel beams that I had not seen before holding up existing steps.

Temperature: 56 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 0.1 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 7. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 7. It was partly cloudy and sometimes stormy. A family was just walking around. Some climbing on the rocks on the beach, but not disturbing anything.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Styrofoam, Wood pieces. Always the above plus plastic bottles. You know how collecting "beach glass" is popular? I wish they'd collect beach plastic.

Natural Changes

Major cracks appearing in bluffs, Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Visible retreat of solid bluff, Landslides/major boulder falls. Even though the beach is filled in with sand, there is cement showing around the 3rd house to the south of the path. This has always been there, but at times it is visible.
