Virtual Black Oystercatcher Community Science Training

About the event

Black Oystercatchers are a striking and easily recognizable bird with whom we share our coast. Because of their small global population size, low reproductive rate, and reliance on rocky intertidal habitats, they are considered a “species of high conservation concern” and act as an indicator of intertidal ecosystem health. Our community science work with this coastal bird is aiding our efforts to protect rocky shoreline habitats. Learn more about the Oregon Black Oystercatcher Project.

Join this training to volunteer with the Oregon Black Oystercatcher Project to monitor oystercatchers along the Oregon coast or to learn more about this charismatic bird. The training will cover Black Oystercatcher life history, the conservation challenges they face, and instructions on how to participate in our nest monitoring program.
