It was a most interesting walk. The sun was out, but the wind a bit strong to be comfortable.The large number of birds was fascinating. And the gal photographing the stranded seal pup was very giving with her information. A very curious and scientific adventure!

Number of people: 13. Walking or running: 11. Playing in sand: 1. Photography: 1. Very interesting: A woman was running down the beach with her cameras (2). Eventually we caught up with her. She was photographing a stranded Northern Fur Seal Pup for (Steven?)Rice. His job is monitoring stranded animals on the beach. We actually helped her a bit.... standing guard in case others came along to see what was going on. No one did , The incident was most interesting.

Notable Wildlife

The stranded Northern Fur Seal pup.And..... Hundreds of seagulls (and 1 pelican) waiting very very patiently for , what we think was, a food source to wash in. It was like they all knew something we did not know!

I had read that the 265-foot vessel Seacor Lee would be anchoring a mile off Driftwood Beach in support of OSU's PacWave South wave energy testing project, positioned so that divers from the ship could perform work on previously installed seafloor conduits.

By the time I got to Driftwood Wayside, a lot of people had already arrived for their New Years Day beach walks, some 30 vehicles in the parking lot and 30 - 40 people down on the beach, accompanied by at least half as many dogs, almost all leashed.

The PacWave South wave energy project hosted a BBQ today at Driftwood Wayside for staff and neighbors to celebrate the completion of construction work here and the reopening of the Wayside later this month.
