About the event

Join us for a morning of seaweed ID on the beach! This workshop will introduce you to the intertidal ecology and oceanography of the Oregon Coast, specifically how it pertains to seaweed. You’ll learn seaweed anatomy, classification, and identification in a fun and interactive setting!

Our host and guide is Alanna Keiffer. Alanna has dedicated the last decade to coastal education and exploration, with a particular passion for the seaweed. She has worked extensively in intertidal systems on the Oregon Coast, wearing many hats and developing a profound connection to the environment. Her experiences in seaweed farming and coastal foraging have deepened her appreciation for the Pacific Northwest ecosystem, sustainable seafood, and the community that supports it.

We are excited to join Alanna on the beach for this class and look forward to sharing more about our work, including expanding protections for kelp and eelgrass and advocating for responsible management of rocky habitats. Tickets are $75, and registration is required; see the link below.
