On June 20, Oregon Shores and Surfrider sponsored “Land Use Planning for Coast Lovers,” a guide to getting involved. The main presenter was Eric Wriston, the Crag Law Center attorney we work with through our Coastal Law Project. Meg Reed, Coastal Policy Specialist with the Oregon Coastal Management Program, set the scene with a basic outline of the land use planning process. Eric then focused on those aspects with special relevance to the coast, such as shoreline armoring, sand management, development in erosion-prone areas, protecting public access, and the like.

The webinar was designed as a basic primer on how the land use planning system works, to
enable Oregon Shores members and others who care about the coast to participate more
effectively on behalf of the coastal environment. It is thus highly relevant on an ongoing basis.
