This is the first report (at least for me) for Mile 9 and some of the observations noted were made for baseline information. The tideline contained mostly small pieces of wood and a few small pieces of styrofoam and plastic, less than 2 inches in diameter, and without any markings...read more
  • King Tide, Mile 9, Looking North (from bluff at the southern end of Mile 9) toward Rainbow Rock. High tide at 8.4 FT.
  • "Normal" high tide (4.9 FT), Mile 9, looking north toward Rainbow Rock from bluff at the southern end on mile 9.
  • Low Tide (1.0 FT), Mile 9, looking north toward Rainbow Rock from a bluff at the southern end of Mile 9.
  • Most of the driftline debris consisted of small pieces of wood with a few pieces of plastic and Styrofoam scattered here and there.
  • Beach Erosion noted just south of Shy Creek. The ruler in the photo is 12 inches in length.
  • This Beach Hopper has come out early for supper!
  • Approximately 100 Gulls are enjoying the fresh water in the fan in Taylor Creek.  These are the only wildlife observed in Mile 9 on this date.
  • Rainbow Rock is named after the colored beds of banded chert found here.
