We did not identify any major changes or concerns along mile 99. Both of the creeks bordering the mile were running low and there were a few low sand dunes left after the summer north winds.

Conditions

Temperature: 56 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1.0 feet.

Activities

Number of people: 21. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 19.

Other Activities: 3 COASST volunteers were conducting a beached bird survey..

Notable Wildlife

There were many Black Oystercatchers foraging and chattering around their nest areas. Several of nests had multiple fledglings who are still hanging out with their parents. There were also many small (6-10 birds) of Brown Pelicans flying by, with some stopping on Haystack Rock.

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 6. The COASST volunteers were conducting the monthly beached bird survey.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

One very large Yellowfin Tuna carcass was at the high tide line. It was fully intact and appeared untouched by scavengers. It was first reported to ODFW and OS Ranger on 9/06/25.
