Very light driftline with a small number of the algae, Hymenena, Callophyllis, Macrocystis and Postelsia and a few stones.
Report Details
Very light driftline with a small number of the algae, Hymenena, Callophyllis, Macrocystis and Postelsia and a few stones. Beach with 5-8 degree slopes. Two large logs on low beach. Embayment has shifted northward. High tide flowed over ridge into runnel. Hight tide sweeping over entire beach just north of New River outlet. Live birds included 2 Snowy Plover, 1 Great Blue Heron, large flocks of Brown Pelicans feeding off-shore and large flocks of Western Sand pipers on the dry sand. Dead birds included 1 immature Western Gull, 2 Northern Fulmar, a Robin freshly killed by a raptor and a Brandt's Cormorant. One dead Harbor Seal on beach. Low human impact (0).

Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light.
Notable Wildlife
2 Snowy Plovers, 1 Great Blue Heron. Large flocks of Western Sandpipers up high on the dry sand. Flocks of Brown Pelicans feeding offshore.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 5. 1 immature Western Gull, 1 Robin freshly killed by a raptor, 2 Northern Fulmars, 1 Brandt's Cormorant
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. Harbor Seal
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Small rocks.
Natural Changes
Evidence of wave overtopping. Wave overtopping and sweeping over the low beach north of New River outlet.

Report from Diane and Dave BilderbackHere on the south coast, we have been having a wash up of a pelagic purple tunicate, Dolioletta gegenbauri, that at times causes a deep purple wash on the beach and also has colored small sand pools.
