Mile 7 - Ransom Creek, South Harris Beach SP - June 6, 2015

Another beautiful day on the south coast with 38 people enjoying exploring the beach at a minus (-1.0 ft.) tide. The beach was relatively clean with kelp and seagrass accumulations in only a few parts of the driftline. The only concerns were people fishing from a very steep and dangerous slope on the south side of a rock at the north end of Mile 7 and a tent set up mid-Mile 7 which appeared to have been there overnight.

Number of people: 38. Number of dogs: 11. Walking or running: 30. Sitting: 2. Tidepooling: 2. Fishing: 4. Four individuals were fishing from very steep slopes on the south side of "Arch Rock" at the northern end of Mile 7. Also, a tent was set up at about mid-Mile 7 and possibly used overnight.

Notable Wildlife

Four Black oystercatcher nests were observed, one with two young chicks. These will be reported as part of an oystercatcher reproductive survey which I am participating in.
