Report Details

Lovely day at the beach - everything looked very clean. Super minimal debris, mostly natural, very little man made. Helped my sister look for Killer Whales, though she completed the report.

Conditions

Temperature: 56 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1.37 feet.

Activities

Types of Activities: Sitting, Walking/Running.

Number of people: 7. Number of dogs: 1.

Other Activities: One woman we spoke to was birdwatching.. Everyone was behaving themselves..

Notable Wildlife

Saw pelicans (3) fishing in the surf, gulls the birdwatching woman identified as Bonaparte's (12-15), and tiny surf scooters unknown number. The Bonaparte's were running on the surf line, and didn’t mind us walking by them. The scooters were in the sea.

Beached Birds

Stranded Marine Mammals

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Wouldn't be a visit to the Port Beach without finding a fish head, likely castoff by a fisherman. Think it's a sockeye.

Wrackline Content

Small rocks, Wood pieces. Weird jellies that Gemini identified as "comb jellyfish" looked like raised lines in the sand, but were definitely gellid in texture.

Man-made Modifications

None observed.

Natural Changes

Dead tree still hanging on over the tunnel from Battle Rock beach to the pocket beach. Surprised it didn't come down over the winter. Didn't notice anything else that was majorly different than previous visits.

Quiet on this beach today. There are always more dead birds here than on the Battle Rock Beach.

Beautiful day! Sunny clear blue skies (Tee shirt weather) about as good as it gets here. Beaches looked clean and in good shape.

Cloud cover broke as we were eating lunch prior to going into the beach. On the pocket beach by Battle Rock saw a dead tree looking ready to fall off Battle Rock, almost directly over where the tunnel exits onto that beach.

The beaches were pretty clean this visit except for an exceptional amount of small trees and branches up with the logs at high tide line. There was no one on the Port Beach but 3 different people used the picnic table at the Sailor memorial while I was there.

The dead jellies were only on the main beach, not the little pocket beach bordering Battle Rock.
