Report Details

I was astounded by the mass of humans on the beach, so I thought I'd report it. I did not observe any violations, but +/-250 people probably did make an impact. Port Orford made plans for beach cleanups of both the dock beach and the Battle Rock beach for July 5th. I was not able to participate.

Conditions

Temperature: 66 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Tide Level: 1.3 feet.

Human Activities

The most people I've ever seen on the Port Orford beach, though this is my first time attending the dingy races. I can only estimate there were around 250 on the beach. Everyone was behaving themselves. I am hoping my sisters will complete a full report soon, to seeif there is any lasting impact from all the human visitors. We did count 18 motor vehicles on the beach in allowed areas.

Beach southeast of Battle Rock, north of Hubbard Creek

August 24, 2025

Beautiful day! Sunny blue skies, calm winds and warm (Tee Shirt weather) People and dogs enjoying the day with the weather about as good as it gets here. Beaches looked clean and in good shape. It doesn't get much better than this.

Odd large pieces of trash near Battle Rock. Lots of bottle caps in wrack line. Many small pieces of plastic in the wrack line near Hubbard Creek. I remember my mom showing me an aluminum railing from a shipwreck sticking out of the rocks on this beach years ago when the sand was low.

Seems like cheating to call this a winter report, with the weather conditions being so lovely.
