Report Details
On this beautiful day in mid-December, the beach areas were littered with large root balls from trees and other large logs which had, along with kelp debris, littered around the beach area and, i suspect, were uncovered from the strong wave action of previous days storms. Normally, these large logs, etc. are closer up to the banks. All was calm, a few seagulls soaring around, watching our every move, and sparkling blue water in the little alcove that makes up the North Jetty Beach. It was fun talking with the couple from Medford area who were, needless to say, enthralled with this beach and its beauty. It was a privilege to be down there on this day.
Conditions
Temperature: 48 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: N.
Human Activities
Number of people: 2. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 2. Other Activities: ocean glass hunting. IT WAS ONE OF THE FEW LOVELY DAYS THIS MONTH AND WE HAD THE BEACH TO OURSELVES. wE DID A LOT OF STANDING AROUND, WATCHING THE WAVES ROLL IN AND A FEW BOATS GOING OUT INTO THE BAY. a TRULY BEAUTIFUL AFTERNOON.
Concerns
Driftwood removal, Kelp/algae collection
Apparent violations: none.Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Seagulls soaring above.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Small rocks, Wood pieces. Very large driftwood root balls and large logs
Natural Changes
Newly exposed roots/trees falling. The large logs which were washed up onto the access to the beach at the North Jetty remain locked in place. I was hoping that the storms of late would dislodge them, but to no avail as yet. We need a confluence of high tide and extreme winds and wave
