Nearly one hundred vehicles and hundreds of people clamming and enjoying the beach, including 120 Astoria Middle School students on a field trip learning about marine debris monitoring and hybrid beach grass. Sandpipers and sand shrimp, gulls, sand worms and razor clams were some of the wildlife seen. There was a lot of marine debris including garbage left from clammers.

Human Activities

Number of people: 256. Number of dogs: 31. Other Activities: There were many people and families out clamming because of the low tide. May is when clamming season opens in Oregon and Washington.. Lots of cars and trucks were both parked and driving early in the day. Most were there for clamming. Students at Astoria Middle School were having a beach day with science activities. Clamming activity slowed down and many vehicles left by 11:30 am.
