33 participants from the Searching for Killer Whale Presentation at NCRD joined Angela Whitlock, Marine Program Manager for the North Coast Land Conservancy, Katie Darr, Communications & Engagement Specialist for the Marine Resources Program at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Kevin Campion, founder of Deep Green Wilderness, in a search along Mile 302 for 1.5 hours for Southern Resident Orcas and spotted three unidentified whales, two approximately 3-5 miles offshore and one closer in. Approximately 30 additional visitors to the wayside enjoyed views of the mile while learning about our search to better understand this iconic species/ecotype and its behaviors.

Except for the folks who visit the cauldron by car via the parking lot on 101, the trail between this point and Short Sands appears to be lightly used.
