Report Details

It was a beautiful, calm day in Manzanita! Folks walking dogs mostly, a couple of people sitting in the sand or on logs. Some moon jellies washed up, many parts of jellies around the beach, too. Many wrack lines with wood, micro-plastics, molts, driftwood, etc. Lots of burnt wood, some fires were burned very close to the dunes or to large driftwood logs. In some instances, the large driftwood logs were burned. There is a stump that has been on the beach since 2020 at least, and it moved much further south than this summer, likely during the last king tides!

Conditions

Temperature: 49 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 8.11 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 29. Number of dogs: 18. Walking or running: 25. Sitting: 4. Other Activities: Mostly dog walkers!.

Notable Wildlife

Western Gulls hanging out in the surf line. Crows and Ravens higher up on the beach.

Driftline Content

Lots of wood in the wrack line today. Also, quite a few feathers and wing parts of birds. Multiple wrack lines. Some with small marine debris mixed in, others with only wood and seaweeds and sea grass.

Natural Changes

Erosion of vegetated foredune. Runoff has carved out sand surrounding dunes further, though this changes with seasons. At the northern end of mile 300 the OPRD sign is in danger of being washed away by high tides. See pics. I will also report this to OPRD. Stump that has been there since 2020 moved south.

A sunny Saturday morning in Manzanita! The upside down tree that is at 45. The strangest thing I found were the two adult common murres - one with a string tied to its wing.
