Report Details

While walking my dog with a friend we found a Common Mola or Ocean Sunfish! This was a small fish compared to how large they can get, apparently. The fish was dead and had significant healed scarring on it's body. No injuries visible, the body was intact but without the eyes.

Conditions

Temperature: 61 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1.0 feet.

Human Activities

A beautiful & very warm morning - only a few people walking on the beach.

Concerns

Apparent violations: On mile 301 there was a person fishing in the CFMR. Reported this to OSP and to Angela Whitlock from NCLCo. Did not approach the person..

Actions & Comments

In mile 300 there was a Common Mola on the beach. Small, about 20" long and 15" wide. Eyes gone, body rather scarred. In the wrack line from the previous high tide. Tide was going out when I spotted it. 45.71954° N, 123.94188° W

A sunny Saturday morning in Manzanita! The upside down tree that is at 45. The strangest thing I found were the two adult common murres - one with a string tied to its wing.
