Report Details

A beautiful August afternoon. Very warm, sunny, no wind. Warm enough for people to be swimming & playing in the water. The beach was still very big, even though I was walking just past high tide. The wrack line was clean, not filled with plastic or fishing debris. There were diatoms in the wrack line, and the remains of diatoms from previous high tides, leaving the black, dirty looking remains behind. Since it's high tourist season, there were countless leftover fire pits on the beach, many of which were very close to the dune grasses. Several were a mere 3 or 4 feet from the grass. Lots of burnt driftwood, too. A few driftwood structures were along the beach, too. Neahkahnie Creek and the drainage at the south end were lightly flowing with small streams. Kids playing in the drainage at the south end.

Conditions

Temperature: 72 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 6.6 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 202. Number of dogs: 29. Walking or running: 105. Sitting: 97.

Notable Wildlife

So many people on the beach, there weren't even birds hanging out!

Driftline Content

Diatoms! Various stages of decay on beach and last wrack line.

A sunny Saturday morning in Manzanita! The upside down tree that is at 45. The strangest thing I found were the two adult common murres - one with a string tied to its wing.
