Report Details

Some dead sea life. The ubiquitous plastic dog poop bag left behind.

Temperature: 49 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 0.5 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 3. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 3.

Concerns

Litter

Apparent violations: The only litter I found in this mile was a filled dog poop bag left behind and found on the wrack line. This is a pet peeve of mine. I seem to find them on every beach. It would be much better if dog owners would just bury the waste below the tide line than leave behind these plastic “gift bags”..

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 1.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Found 1 inverted beached sea star. 2 days ago I found 3 near the north jetty at Rockaway. One was missing a limb. I know missing limbs is a sign of sea star wasting disease. Of course it also could be from a predator.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces. Dog poop bag.
