Report Details
Mile 288 showed no signs of man-made disturbance, and no one was on-site during my monitoring. There was no evidence of eroding dune bluffs and only minimal marine debris which I collected and removed. I was glad to see a flock of plovers flying in the foredune again!
Conditions
Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Tide Level: 4 feet.
Concerns
Litter
Notable Wildlife
I saw a flock of plovers flying over the wet foredune.
Driftline Content
I only observed a minimal amount of marine/ocean-based debris; plastic bottles were the most common. I collected and removed one large garbage bag full of marine debris. I also removed an undamaged plastic boat gas tank found in Mile 288. It may have been related to the badly damaged plastic canoe which washed ashore in Mile 287. The wrack line also held the usual jellyfish, shells, and seaweed.
Natural Changes
There was a significant amount of sand accreted since my spring visit and limited active bluff erosion evident.

It was an incredibly busy day for Mile 288 the day before the snowy plover nesting season began! I was glad to see DOGAMI and OPRD on-site, and appreciated OPRD's willingness to haul the debris I collected back to their dumpsters. It was also exciting to see so many plovers in the wet sand.
