A very quiet day at Cape Lookout SP.

A very quiet day at Cape Lookout SP. Seems to have survived the winter with only usual wear and tear although it does seem areas behind beach are more open. The Parks Service has now shored up the foredune with rocks for the entire length of the park.

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 0.3 feet.

Number of people: 7. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 4. Sitting: 3. Very few people today.
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Saw an eagle. Not much else. Walking by the campground there were more birds and some squirrels.
Man-made Modifications
The Park Service has brought in rocks to protect dunes.
Natural Changes
Erosion of vegetated foredune, Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Evidence of wave overtopping, Visible retreat of solid bluff.
Actions & Comments
Usual signs of winter weather. Sand and debris in day use area and where waves overtopped in front of campground. Most of the sand is gone - not much in the way of beach.

After days of rain the sun finally made an appearance, making for a pleasant afternoon on the beach.

It was a beautiful, sunny day although somewhat brisk. Some photos of recent erosion are attached.

The recent storms and high tides have deposited a lot of debris on the beach - especially small plastic fragments.

It was a windy and cloudy day and hence the beach was fairly deserted.
