Mile 259 Report
Nestucca Spit State Park, Kiwanda Beach
March 4, 2009
The beach was relatively free of litter-type debris.
Report Details
The beach was relatively free of litter-type debris. There were a few big 'clumps' of bull kelp and a number of jellyfish. It was a nice morning, and we saw 15 people taking advantage of it. One fellow was recording ocean sounds with sophisticated-looking equipment to incorporate into his own musical compositions that he puts on CDs and sells.
Conditions
Temperature: 45 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 1.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 15. Number of dogs: 3. Walking or running: 14. Other Activities: 1 [recording ocean sounds]. The most interesting observation was seeing one young man recording ocean sounds that he intends to include as part of musical CDs that he creates and sells. He, Jack by name, said he was not a well known musician, and he did not offer us a business card.
Vehicles
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Unusual concentration. There were a number of fairly large jellyfish on the beach (probably moon jellies) as well as a number of jelly-like 'globs' that we do not know the name of.

From my perspective on horseback, the beach looked in great shape and was being used by visitors just like a beach should be on a nice summer day.
