Lovely quiet day on beach. Found quite a few dead common murres, numbers that we ordinarily see in July and August. Also found a dead ocean sunfish. No problems identified.

Temperature: 52 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 1.5 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 9. Walking or running: 6. Playing in sand: 3.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 2.

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 11. Common murres, 7 juvenile, 4 adult

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Unusual concentration. Found one ocean sunfish.

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces.

The north half mile of 254 (after the end of the rip rap )has experienced serious erosion.

There is a marked difference between the 1/4 mile of rip rapped beach with its gentle slope and 2' shelf of sand blown against the rocks AND the north 3/4 mile where the dunes are receeding and are eroding in height.
