There has been additional erosion since I reported the significant loss of dunes and trees in March.

Conditions

Temperature: 63 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Tide Level: 1.7 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 3. Number of dogs: 14. Walking or running: 3.

Notable Wildlife

20 or more seagulls

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt).

Natural Changes

Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Erosion of vegetated foredune, Visible retreat of solid bluff. There has been additional erosion since I reported the significant loss of dunes and trees in March. Mid-mile, I would estimate 30 more trees have fallen off the bank and the remaining trees on top show signs of stress. Roots are hanging over the bank and sand is sloughing off newly exposed dunes.

There is a marked difference between the 1/4 mile of rip rapped beach with its gentle slope and 2' shelf of sand blown against the rocks AND the north 3/4 mile where the dunes are receeding and are eroding in height.

It has been two months since my last observation and, of course, there have been many storms, a great deal of rain and high winds in that time.
