Mile 244 Report
Wecoma Beach north, Lincoln City, Roads End south
May 29, 2024
Today's report was about the wrack line.
Report Details
Today's report was about the wrack line. The report of tar balls motivated my walk on the beach. Fortunately, there were no tar balls, but the wrack line was interesting. First, there were areas with lots of feathers, something I hadn't seen before. I also found litter that had been tossed in the ocean long enough to have barnacles growing on them.
Conditions
Temperature: 51 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light.
Human Activities
Number of people: 25. No cars on the beach.
Concerns
Litter
Apparent violations: Lots of plastic sand toys, cigarette butts, bottle caps, and styrofoam. I found a full and sealed bottle of fire whiskey..Notable Wildlife
The birds of note were gulls and crows. No mammals.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 2. I saw what looked like a finch of some sort. I also saw a pigeon guillemot - about 50 yards north of mile marker 40D.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Saw a jellyfish in the wrack line.
Driftline Content
There were lots of feathers in the wrack line.
New Development
Steps down bluff. Step repair/rebuild at the north end of the casino. Accessibility mats are out at the casino beach entrance.

Nothing of note.

What stays the same here and needs attention is the plastic drainage pipes hanging down the cliff from private property that drain onto the beach.
