Broad sunny beach on a holiday weekend. Many more humans and fewer birds than usual. Small, usual amount of plastic trash. Two F-15 jets headed south for flyover at Fleet of Flowers in Depoe Bay. No oiled or distressed birds, no tar deposits (seen further north along the coast this week) noted.

Apparent violations: Small amount of litter today (collected and disposed of): yogurt cup, plastic rope, plastic bucket handle, etc.

Small rocks, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt). Looked closely for tar balls or deposits in wrack line. None seen.

It has been a very hard year for Lion's Mane jellies with large numbers of whole or almost whole jellies and pieces, large and small at the tide line. Enjoyed meeting a praying mantis and, hopefully assisting in its recovery from the tide.
