Report Details
It was a foggy and gloomy morning at the beach with only about a dozen people and a handful of pups enjoying the cool beach breeze. It was so foggy that the horizon was not visible and you could feel the ocean mist in the air. The most notable difference on the beach walk was a new river that formed parallel to the shoreline. There were some ducks and seagulls enjoying the new river and people and pets minding their own business while the birds enjoyed a bath. Per usual, there was some human-made driftwood forts, some burned driftwood and other driftwood that was positioned erect in the sand.
Conditions
Temperature: 59 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 12. Number of dogs: 4. Walking or running: 10. Sitting: 2. Other Activities: Only about a dozen people on the beach this morning. Most were walking, but a few were sitting facing the ocean. Two of the four pups were off-leash and enjoying a game of fetch with good recall.. Construction crew was unloading fencing in the parking lot at Canyon Drive Park and were taking up about half of the west parking lot.
Notable Wildlife
There were a handful of ducks and seagulls enjoying the new river that formed on the beach starting just south of the 11th street access. No people or pets were interfering with the wildlife on the beach.
Driftline Content
Mostly animal casings, seaweed, shells and driftwood on the wrack line. There was some driftwood that appeared to have been burned, other driftwood that was staged to sit upright/ erect in the sand and finally at least one human-made driftwood fort.
New Development
Drainage pipes. There is a drainage pipe that is located at that beach access which historically has water flowing from it down to the ocean. Today there was hardly any water coming out of the drainage pipe and the water was flowing south down the beach rather than out to the ocean.
Natural Changes
On the north end of the mile, just south of the 11th street access there was a new river that had formed parallel to the shoreline on the beach. The river was about 1/4th of a mile long and didn't have any connection to the ocean.
