Mile 241 Report
Nelscott north, Lincoln City south
January 3, 2025
The beach was very crowded with almost 100 people walking about looking for glass floats.
Report Details
The beach was very crowded with almost 100 people walking about looking for glass floats. Today was the first day of a three day 100 float drop so most people appeared to be hunting for floats. The shoreline was very different then I've seen the last few months which I assume is due to the King Tides that visited last month. There was a small rock patch on the shoreline just north of Nelscott where people were looking for agates and other sea treasures. There was unfortunately two incidents of graffiti found along the concrete walls. It was a cloudy and very windy day with a fun patch of hail to finish our family walk.
Conditions
Temperature: 55 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Tide Level: 6 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 90. Number of dogs: 18. Walking or running: 85. Sitting: 5. Other Activities: Most folks were float hunting because there was a large float drop. There was a small group of folks looking for agates and other sea treasures in a rock patch along the breakline..
Concerns
Litter
Apparent violations: There were two locations where graffiti was found. Pictures attached.Notable Wildlife
One bird was seen at the shoreline not moving when people or animals walked near.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 2. No leg bands noted and unknown species
Driftline Content
Not too much trash found and the shoreline driftwood seemed to be redecorated following the King Tides last month. Two or three wood forts were noted towards the half mile point.
New Development
Some concrete with metal rebar was found on the beach. I do not recall noting this during previous visits to the beach. Unsure if this occured during the King Tides last month or if it was already there and I hadn't noticed. Photo included.
Man-made Modifications
Two graffiti finding and two to three driftwood forts were found.
Natural Changes
Landslides/major boulder falls. The shoreline looks much different than previous trips with the driftwood having been moved about and a patch of concrete found a bit south of the half mile point.
