Mile 239 Report
Salishan Spit north, Siletz Bay
June 20, 2009
Not many folks out today.
Report Details
Not many folks out today. Noticed several piles of dog poop, though. Noticed two very decomposed birds in separate beach wrack, probably gulls. Also, noticed a dead Brown pelican in beach wrack. Found my first egg case from shark or skate, mermaid's purse. Noticed a partial pelt of Harbor seal, probably a pup, but no remnants of carcass. Our trash bags were full halfway through our mile. Noticed a huge truck tire on the ocean side of spit, above the high tide line, about a block or so south of boat ramp...much too large for us to haul out. Removed yards of boat rope!

Not a bad fall day for a walk with our out-of-town visitors, but walking the beach was impossible due to the high tide and big waves, which were reaching the beach grass area and bouncing large pieces of driftwood around.
