Mile 239 Report
Salishan Spit north, Siletz Bay
February 23, 2008
Beautiful, sunny day!
Report Details
Beautiful, sunny day! Not very many folks out on the spit today. As our walk was during high tide, we cut it short when we reached a stretch of beach with little or no dry sand (lesson learned from the drenching we got on the 9th). Saw a young Harbor seal in the surf; Northern Pintail ducks in the bay; and a Bald eagle flying over bay with prey in its talons!

Salishan Spit north, Siletz Bay
Our mile has become very hard to get to, as most of the beach accesses in the Salishan community have been eroded by a combination of king tides and winter storms.

The marine layer stayed offshore while we were walking our mile so it turned out to be a nice day.

Mile 239
Salishan Spit north, Siletz Bay
This dispatch covers the entire spit - miles 237, 238, 239 There were no remarkable events: people, nature, trash, marine life It was just a wonderful walk to the tippy end of the spit, where a crowd of lounging dudes greeted us. We walked out three miles on the ocean side and walked back through the neighborhood, which borders the bay side.
